I am delighted to be taking part in an exhibition at the Lightbox Gallery, Woking, titled Parallel Lines - Drawing & Sculpture. The concept of this show is to exhibition drawings by contemporary sculptors alongside sculptures of Modern British sculptors held within the Ingram Collection. Barbara Hepworth's Sculpture with Colour and Strings, pictured below, is the sculpture I have chosen to respond to in this exhibition, which explores how artists have used line in both drawing and sculpture. Landscape was a prime source of inspiration for Hepworth, saying “All my work comes from the landscape.” My own practice has a deep engagement with the natural world and I am exhibiting two drawings which explore specific aspects of rock where straight lines or ‘moments’ define and animate an internal space.

Sculptors in this exhibition include Kenneth Armitage, Lynn Chadwick, Anthony Caro and William Turnbull amongst others. A twin exhibition Parallel Lines: Sculpture and Drawing, is currently on show at the Royal Society of Sculptors (108 Old Brompton Road, London SW3) until 13th July. That exhibition reverses the concept by exhibiting drawings from Modern British sculptors with sculptures by contemporary sculptors.
